This song has nothing to do with the rest of this blog. I just had to post it. It's just too fun. Off of Wallpaper.'s #STUPiDFACEDD ep, Butt2Butt is a goofy ass party banger. Get ittttttttt! (right click to dl)

ACL 2011 Preview -- Charles Bradley

Charles Bradley has been making soulful music long before any of us heard about him. Despite his very turbulent life, Charles caught they eye of Daptone Records at age 51 in 2002. Working with other Daptone groups The Sugarman 3, Charles Bradley and The Bullets, The Budos Band, and helping start The Menahen Street Band, Charles seems to have his hand in everything Daptone. And that's fine with me. He croons and screams. His face appears to be in constant agony. And I haven't seen his live show. That will change Friday September 16th.

Charles Bradley will be performing on Friday at 6:00 on the Vista Equity stage.

Fun Fun Fun Fest Lineup Announced!

It seems that Fun Fun Fun Fest gets better every year. Slayer! Public Enemy! Henry Rollins! The Damned! Reggie Watts! Odd Future! Mistadobalina himself, Del! The lineup is out, but the schedule isn't. I'll start outlining some of my favorite acts soon. The festival is at Auditorium Shores on November 4-6.

It's all too much right now.

ACL 2011 Preview -- Cults

Discovered from their bandcamp page, Cults quickly caught the music world's eye when Pitchfork blessed them with the title "best new music". With the release of their first song "Go Outside", Cults was embraced as a fun singalong band, but were simultaneously written off as a one hit wonder. With the release of their EP, the "one hit wonder" label quickly vanished. Sounding dreamy, playful, yet occasionally dark, Cults EP can catch you off guard. Madeline Follin's voice could easily be confused for a child's until you hear the lyrics on songs like "You Know What I Mean".

Cults will be playing Friday at 11:45 on the Honda stage.

Austin Locals -- Bright Light Social Hour

Bright Light Social Hour is made up of four sexy and talented men: Curtis Roush (guitar, vocals), Jack O'Brien (bass, vocals), A.J. Vincent (keys, vocals), and Joseph Mirasole (drums). And they like to party. Blending rock, funk, and psychedelia, this Austin foursome has accrued several awards--including winning an unprecedented 6 awards at the Austin Music Awards (band of the year, song of the year [Detroit], and album of the year).

Bassist Jack O'Brien has a website dedicated to his moustache, that gives updates on the band's goings-on. Before making their first self-titled studio album, Jack's Moustache helped raised funds:

ACL 2011 Preview -- Kurt Vile

Kurt Vile touched me. And I liked it. His sound has changed since his previous albums--a more stripped down, bare bones feel that really let's his songwriting shine--but I'll take any song from his catalog. The son of a forklift operator in Philadelphia, and the youngest of his 10 siblings, Kurt began writing music in his bedroom. His music has been compared to Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty and Animal Collective. And that was in just one article!

Kurt has released 4 albums: Constant Hitmaker under Gulcher Records (2008) and Woodsist Records (2009), God Is Saying This To You with Mexican Summer Records (2009), Childish Prodigy, and Smoke Ring For My Halo with Matador Records (2010, 2011)

Come see Kurt Vile Friday at 3:45 at the Austin Ventures Stage at ACL.

And as a bonus, fans of Eastbound and Down might remember this Kurt Vile song, "He's Alright" in the second season finale:
